At Thorizon, a passionate team of 40 based in Amsterdam and Lyon is committed to advancing a new nuclear power solution using Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) technology. Your mission

As the HR Director, you will directly support the management team on people, culture and office related activities. At the start, you would be engaged in both strategic as well as more operational activities while over time you further grow the HR team to facilitate the broad needs of the company and culture.

You will be key to enable the fast growth of our bi-national team (Amsterdam and Lyon). In this role, you are end-responsible for the entire employee journey. This includes processes like recruitment & onboarding, salary and growth framework, learning & development and much more. We are looking for someone who can take these processes to the next level and streamline them across our two locations in Amsterdam and Lyon. This is a full-time role  based in Amsterdam, with travel to Lyon from time to time, and reports into the Chief of Staff.

In this role you will:

  • Act as a point of contact for employee inquiries regarding HR processes, policies and contracts
  • Create and execute the People & Culture strategy together with your team (currently one Recruiter, aim to hire at least one FTE in Lyon). This includes the following topics:
    • Lead the recruitment process together with our external partners, both on strategic level (FTE planning, employer branding, etc.) as well as supporting the operational process (writing and posting job openings, managing logistics)
    • Coordinate new hire onboarding, including preparation of employment documentation
    • Lead learning & development, including performance cycles and trainings, with specific focus on developing people management capabilities of our team leads
    • Lead culture agenda, i.e. activities and events needed to enhance Thorizon culture, including coordination of logistics together with our management assistant
    • Take charge of basic HR operations, including up-to-date employee records in our HR information system Personio, monthly coordination with payroll providers in Lyon & Amsterdam
    • Stay informed about changes in employment laws and regulations to ensure compliance and update relevant policies and procedures accordingly.
    • Oversee daily office operations, including managing office supplies, equipment, and contact with facility managers
  • Lead and further grow the HR team, hiring at least one HR professional in Lyon this year

About you:

  • A love for People & Culture with a passion for scaling processes and building teams
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in similar roles, including experience with fast growing (scale-up) and international companies
  • You thrive in fast-paced environments, maintaining a focused approach while effectively managing multiple priorities
  • Experience with building as well as streamlining processes and projects across HR/People and Culture management areas
  • Knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • You are an excellent communicator in English and either French or Dutch, both spoken and written.
  • You like working in an agile manner and are comfortable with the fast-moving pace of a technological scale-up. 
  • You are willing to travel internationally and between Amsterdam and Lyon from time to time
  • You have an intrinsic motivation to make an impact and want to contribute to a responsible energy supply
